Overview
The AMASI Travelling Fellowship is a unique initiative by the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) designed to foster the professional development of surgeons through exposure to advanced surgical practices at leading institutions. This fellowship provides an excellent opportunity for eligible AMASI members to gain hands-on experience and insights by training at a center of excellence within India or internationally.

Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the AMASI Travelling Fellowship, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- Be a full member of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) and AMASI for at least three years as of 31st March.
- Be under 45 years of age.
- Have completed FMAS, MMAS, or Dip MAS.
- Have attended at least one AMASICON conference.
Program Details
- Institute Selection: Candidates must choose an institute located at least 250 km away from their current place of work. The selected institute should be a high-volume center of excellence.
- Permission and Acceptance: The candidate must obtain permission from their departmental or institutional head if employed at an institution. Additionally, an acceptance letter from the training institute or mentor is required.
- Duration: The fellowship must last for a minimum of two weeks.
- Completion Timeline: The fellowship must be completed at least one month before the upcoming AMASICON and within 9 months of receiving approval.
- Reporting: A detailed report (less than 300 words) with key learning points, along with a log sheet of procedures seen, assisted, or performed under supervision, must be submitted to the AMASI office immediately after the program's completion.
- References: Candidates must provide two references with contact details.
Application Deadline
The application deadline for the AMASI Travelling Fellowship is 31st March each year. Approved applicants must complete their fellowship within 9 months of approval.
Selection Process
Each year, AMASI awards 10 national and 5 international fellowships. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available slots, selection is based on:
- The population of the candidate's working location (lower population receives higher weightage).
- Attendance at national/international AMASICON conferences.
- Presentations made at these conferences.
- The applicant’s age (younger candidates receive higher preference).
- The number of journal publications.
The selection committee, appointed by the AMASI president, is responsible for finalizing the recipients.
Fellowship Grant, Travel & Stay
- Grant: Rs 50,000 for national fellowships and Rs 1,00,000 for international fellowships.
- Travel & Stay: Candidates must arrange their travel and stay.
- Documentation: All required documents must be submitted and approved before the fellowship begins. A valid completion certificate must be produced.
- Award Ceremony: The fellowship grant and AMASI certificate will be awarded at the next AMASICON conference after the candidate presents their learning points.
